Do you like your vacuum cleaner? And what kind of bond do you maintain with it? If you have a regular vacuum cleaner it is probably related to annoyance, avoidance, and guilt. When was the last time you used it and did you enjoy it? You most likely enjoyed the clean floors and maybe you were pleased that you did not need to use a broom instead. But did you get stuck with the brush between the legs of a chair? Did you vacuum up something small that you had to pick out from the bag? Were you unable to follow your favorite podcast because the noise was too loud?
The world of vacuum cleaning seems to have changed through a robot that takes over that task. But also the concept of vacuuming has. A study from 2007, released rather early in the arrival of those household robots showed that many people do not call it vacuum cleaning anymore but for example "playing with a robot". The robotic vacuum cleaners receive a lot of sympathy from their users. People are even willing to change their habits to accommodate them and there is even a considerable market for vacuum robot costumes to make them look cute. So how can you, in your quest to be a better machine benefit from this? Would you like to try becoming a vacuum robot? One of their specific traits is that they change direction when they bump into things. This could be the basis of a first attempt: take your regular vacuum cleaner and go until you hit something. When you do this try to make small steps, do not move too fast. If you do not feel satisfied with this setup, yet, try to sit in to of your regular vacuum cleaner, starting to merge your body with the machine. Make the hose as short as possible and if possible attach a smaller brush head to it. now push the vacuum cleaner with your body on top slightly forward with your feet. And again, if you hit something, change direction. How do you feel? Can you feel the machine inside of you? How are others reacting to you? Do you feel like they are enjoying your vacuum cleaning efforts more than before? And would you still call it vacuum cleaning? Practice this at least once a week to understand all aspects of this new execution of the task. Do you feel like you are improving with time?
